Congleton guided mill walks

Macclesfield guided walks

A Macclesfield Town Trail guide is available free from Macclesfield Silk Museum (01625 612045); visitors can experience a morning or afternoon walking tour. Guided tours are also available with blue badge guides bookings can be made at the museum also.

Water power was the wonder of the late 18th Century and today you can see this technological breakthrough in action at Quarry Bank Mill & Styal Estate. Award-winning galleries are devoted to water and steam power, with hands-on displays and exhibits, an 1830s Beam Engine and a Horizontal Steam Engine which steam daily.
Discover the lives of the mill workers and how pauper children spent their time, with lessons in the schoolroom, and hours working cleaning up cotton waste among the clattering looms, which today produce Styal Calico cloth. Meet people who once worked in cotton mills with a lifetime of stories to share with you.

Established in 2002, the museum has touch screen computers, pull-out figures with voice-overs telling the town's history. Fascinating exhibits include medieval log boat, coin hoards from the civil war, fustian cutting displays and war time experiences.
Congleton Museum has a shop which sells souvenirs and books about Congleton and its history. The shop is open to all - there is no admission charge.
Monthly themed walks through Congleton town such as 'Mill walks and industrial yarns' and 'In search of Georgian Congleton' including Cream Tea. Also, there are various exhibitions throughout the year such as the 'Major 60's' and the 'Warp and Weft' Exhibitions.
