More leisurely strolls explore the lovely woodland at Styal, leading to Quarry Bank Mill, and on Alderley Edge, steeped in legend and folklore, to the Copper Mines that can be explored with Derbyshire Caving Club, and the dramatic escarpment that juts out over the Cheshire Plain.

Guided walks are arranged throughout the year by the Macclesfield Rangers, the Bollin Valley Rangers and experts in the area's heritage and wildlife. Macclesfield Information Centre and Bollington Drop-in Centre for more information about these.

Walk alongside the Macclesfield Canal or cycle the Middlewood Way, skirting around the foothills of hte Peaks District. For the more energetic, the Cheshire Cycleway follows a lovely route through the mill village of Bollington, into the Cheshire Peak District, over the heights and into Wildboarclough and Macclesfield Forest.
